ILLINOIS PUBLIC SAFETY LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE

Rather than placing civilian public safety professionals into training designed primarily for sworn personnel or supervisors, the Illinois Public Safety Leadership Institute – Civilian Team Development was intentionally built around a different principle:

Civilian team members are not a secondary audience...

They are essential contributors to the success of every public safety organization.

About the Civilian Team Development Series

The Illinois Public Safety Leadership Institute - Civilian Team Development Series is a premier, two-day development program dedicated to strengthening the capabilities of civilian professionals across the public safety sector. Designed specifically for non-sworn public safety teams including communications, community service, court services, IT, records, and other civilian employees, IPSLI is supported by a growing network of respected statewide organizations and delivers immersive, real-world training designed to elevate interpersonal effectiveness, enhance service delivery, and build resilient, high-performing teams.

Unlike traditional training seminars, the Illinois Public Safety Leadership Institute – Civilian Team Development is intentionally structured as an immersive two-day learning experience focused on strengthening self-awareness, communication, and team effectiveness.

The program is built around two core areas: understanding your personal style and the impact you have on others, using Everything DiSC® as a foundation for greater self-awareness, and understanding your communication style and how to work more effectively with others. Together, these sessions help participants better understand themselves, recognize the needs and styles of their coworkers, communicate more intentionally, and contribute to stronger, more collaborative teams.

This immersive approach gives line-level civilian professionals practical tools they can immediately apply within their agencies to strengthen relationships, improve communication, navigate differences, and positively influence the teams and organizations they serve.

What further sets IPSLI apart is access to a statewide network of peers facing many of the same operational realities,  challenges, and opportunities. Through this approach, IPSLI develops confident, capable team members equipped to drive meaningful impact within their agencies and the communities they serve. The program is built specifically for civilian professionals who work in critical public safety functions.
